Pair of Gothic Arch Pressed-Glass Oil Lamps, Attributed to Boston & Sandwich, Circa 1850
A handsome pair of mid-19th-century fluid lamps in the Gothic Arch pattern, attributed to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company, circa 1850. Each lamp has a clear, domed font set above a paneled shoulder molded with crisp Gothic arches. Below that, a knopped stem rises from a sturdy, stepped hexagonal base. The brilliant, clear glass catches the light beautifully.
Both lamps retain their original brass double-tube burners, with the caps still attached by their original chains. The pair is well matched in form and scale, which makes it ideal for flanking a mantel, console, or sideboard. Gothic Arch is among the most sought-after patterns in American pressed glass, and a matched pair with original fittings is increasingly hard to find.
Condition: Very good antique condition with no cracks. There is minor roughness at the corners of the bases, consistent with age and use. Each lamp has an old pontil mark on the underside of the base. Original burners and chains are intact.
