This exquisite late Qing Dynasty piece exemplifies the refined aesthetic of peking rugs. Woven during a period of peak artistry in the capital, the rug showcases the characteristic open field design and sophisticated use of negative space, setting it apart from more densely patterned Central Asian textiles.

The captivating field color is a luminous, soft coral color, a highly sought-after hue achieved through expert natural dyeing techniques typical of the era. This warm ground provides a striking contrast to the deep indigo and navy blue used in the primary borders and the stylized floral and vase motifs scattered throughout the composition, lending the piece remarkable depth and visual clarity.

Despite its age, the hand-knotted wool pile retains excellent structure, offering a luxurious texture suitable for display. The dimensions place this textile squarely within the small scatter size rugs category (4.11ft x 7.07ft), making it an ideal accent piece for an entryway, bedside, or intimate sitting area where its delicate palette can be fully appreciated.

The intricate border system, featuring classical fretwork and stylized scrolling vines, frames the central design perfectly. Dating to the 1890s, this is a superb example of collectible antique rugs, representing the pinnacle of late 19th-century Chinese rugs production before the major commercial shifts of the 20th century.
