Original etching on paper, after the artist's own composition, published by Cadart & Luquet, Paris, 1862. A moving original etching by Amédée Guérard, depicting an intimate domestic scene in which a young mother tenderly embraces and kisses her sleeping child. Executed in 1862 and published by the celebrated Parisian print dealers Cadart & Luquet, the composition exemplifies Guérard's sensitivity to the quiet poetry of everyday life and reflects the growing appreciation for scenes of familial affection that characterised French Realist printmaking during the Second Empire. Published during the flourishing period of the Société des Aquafortistes, Baiser d'une Mère reflects the revival of original etching as an autonomous artistic medium championed by Alfred Cadart. Guérard was among the accomplished artists who contributed to this movement, producing works distinguished by both technical refinement and emotional sincerity. Good overall condition with a well-inked impression exhibiting rich tonal contrasts and crisp etched detail. The sheet displays age-related toning, scattered foxing, and minor handling wear, principally within the margins, consistent with its age. The image itself remains clean and visually strong. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
