Lithograph on paper, published by Gihaut Frères. Table from the Series Camp de Vosnesensk. Signed and dated in the plate. A finely executed original lithograph by the celebrated French military artist Denis Auguste Marie Raffet, depicting mounted officers and troopers of the Kazan Dragoon Regiment during the grand military manoeuvres held at the Camp of Vosnesensk in the Russian Empire in 1837. Created following Raffet's celebrated journey through Russia, the print forms part of his renowned series documenting the imperial army assembled during the reign of Tsar Nicholas I. The composition presents a disciplined column of dragoons advancing at a measured pace, the commanding officer prominently positioned in the foreground astride a spirited horse. Raffet masterfully combines careful anatomical observation of both horse and rider with subtle atmospheric effects, allowing the succeeding ranks to dissolve gradually into the background, conveying both depth and the impressive scale of the cavalry formation. The restrained elegance of the composition reflects the ceremonial precision of the Imperial Russian cavalry while simultaneously celebrating the nobility and movement of the horse. The Camp de Vosnesensk series occupies a distinguished place within Raffet's oeuvre. Commissioned after his extensive travels through Russia in 1837, the series documents the diverse regiments of the Imperial Army and remains one of the most comprehensive artistic records of nineteenth-century European military life. Original impressions from this publication are increasingly appreciated for both their historical significance and their artistic refinement. Condition: Good overall condition with a clear, well-preserved impression and delicate tonal modelling. The sheet exhibits age-related toning, scattered foxing, and minor handling wear, particularly within the margins, all consistent with its age. The printed image remains crisp and attractive with excellent legibility. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
