Both paintings portray young girls seen from behind, immersed in the quiet atmosphere of school. In Alla Lavagna, the gesture of writing becomes the focal point, while A Scuola presents a more contemplative moment. Their deep blue and green backgrounds, illuminated by expressive touches of pink, yellow, red and white, create a subtle visual dialogue between the two works.
Criscuolo avoids precise in favour of atmospheric colour and gestural brushwork. The traces of writing and softly defined figures appear almost like fragments of memory, giving the two paintings a dreamlike and emotionally suspended quality.
Together, the works transform an ordinary school setting into a universal reflection on childhood, innocence and the fleeting nature of time.
Both paintings are signed lower left, titled and stamped on the reverse. Oil on canvas, each measuring 90 × 50 cm. Presented unframed.
An evocative pair whose shared subject, palette and expressive language give the two works a particularly harmonious presence when displayed together. This piece has an attribution mark,
