This exceptional Chinese textile exemplifies the refined elegance of early 20th-century weaving, characterized by its spacious design and the generous proportions typical of room size rugs.

The expansive central field is rendered in a soft, luminous taupe, a classic choice among brown earth tone rugs. This delicate shade provides a tranquil backdrop for the scattered floral motifs, offering a subtle yet profound presence suitable for diverse interiors.

Contrasting sharply with the neutral ground, the wide border features a deep indigo blue, meticulously decorated with scrolling vines, butterflies, and stylized blooms in shades of pale azure, mustard yellow, and rose. The sophisticated composition balances Peking's characteristic restraint with bursts of naturalistic detail.

Woven from high-quality wool, this piece exhibits excellent knot density and a silky sheen characteristic of the period. It remains a superb example of early Chinese export weaving, representing the finest tradition among antique rugs and textiles of the era. See less
