Authentic lifetime strike of the monochrome woodblock print "Doves and Girl" (Hato) by Japanese mid-century artist Kaoru Kawano (1916–1965).
This variant features deep black ink and two distinct shades of gray on off-white paper.
Hand-signed by the artist in cursive pencil in the lower left corner; the signature retains its metallic sheen. Also has the artist hanko seal on the lower right side. The hand cursive signature and the red pigment seal are faint under normal lighting conditions, so additional photos are included to show the coloration and detail.
Housed in its original 1960s/1970s silver-tone aluminum frame with a black mat. The charcoal-black mat is intentionally a lighter black than the deep black ink of the artwork itself, creating a beautiful layered contrast. Ready to hang.
Excellent vintage condition.

No tears, water stains, or foxing. The black ink remains deep and dark. • Framing & Matting: Original late 1960s/1970s silver-tone aluminum frame and black cardboard mat. Frame is structurally sound but shows age with one noticeable scratch at the top center and a few minor, light scratches elsewhere. • Mat Oxidation: The inner cut edge of the black cardboard mat shows characteristic beige/brown oxidation from age. This aging is strictly contained to the mat edge and has not bled onto the artwork paper. • Reverse Backing: Minor surface skinning in one spot on the reverse cardboard backing (does not penetrate through to the artwork). less
