This exceptional late 19th-century piece exemplifies the robust construction and dense patterning characteristic of the bidjar weaving tradition. Its sturdy wool foundation and tight knot density earned these pieces the nickname "iron rugs" among collectors, ensuring their lasting durability even in high-traffic areas.

The saturated field is dominated by a rich, deeply dyed red hue, placing it among our finest red color rugs. This vibrant ground provides the backdrop for a complex, repeating design. The central field utilizes an intricate allover rugs pattern, featuring stylized palmettes, geometric medallions, and meandering vines rendered in indigo, sky blue, and saffron yellow.

Perfectly scaled for circulation spaces, this piece is an ideal example of hallway runner rugs, designed to anchor long corridors or entryways. The narrow proportions are balanced by a bold, multi-layered border system. A deep indigo main border, featuring alternating floral rosettes and paisley elements, frames the active field, providing necessary visual structure and contrast.

Woven during the height of the Qajar dynasty, this runner represents a superb example of late 19th-century Persian weaving artistry. Its excellent condition, rich patina, and powerful design make it a highly desirable addition to any collection of fine antique rugs. This piece carries the weight of history while offering timeless sophistication. See less
