Authentic late 19th-century handmade needlepoint tapestry featuring a classic Continental "gallant scene" of a courtly couple. This is a genuine hand-stitched antique piece (likely Berlin woolwork), showcasing exceptional craftsmanship with individual tent/half-cross stitches anchored onto a canvas backing.
The textile comes housed in its gorgeous, heavy, period-correct mitered solid wood frame which adds fantastic structural presence and makes it instantly ready to hang. Perfect for collectors of antique textiles or anyone looking to add a touch of authentic rustic, Old World charm to their home decor.
Special Note on the Frame:
The frame is a spectacular piece of 19th-century folk art / tramp art craftsmanship on its own. The back features entirely original solid wood plank backing secured with antique square-cut nails. The corners showcase beautiful, hand-notched overlapping cross-over miter joints characteristic of authentic period Continental framing. The wood displays an incredibly rich, warm historic patina. Please note that there is minor historic wood splitting at the hand-notched miter joints.

Condition Report (Please Read):
This piece is over a century old and shows honest, age-appropriate vintage wear that confirms its antique history:
* Pigment: The colors on the main figures remain remarkably strong and vibrant, particularly the deep blues and rich reds.
* Stitch Loss: There are visible areas of historic wool thread loss exposing the structural canvas backing; this is present in the background sky, the lower-right area, and includes some localized stitch loss on the female figure's dress/chest/face area. The original 19th-century folk-art frame shows beautiful wear, minor historic wood splitting at the hand-notched miter joints, and original wood plank backing. (see close-up photos).
* General Aging: Mild overall fading to the background sky tones and minor historic staining/discoloration consistent with age.
The piece is structurally sound inside the frame but is being sold as-is to account for these historic textile imperfections.
