This piece is a finely executed artist’s copy of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s iconic 1881 masterpiece, The Tepidarium. The artist captures the soft, luminescent flesh tones and textural contrast between the heavy fur and delicate feathers with wonderful mid-century academic skill.
The painting is signed "Lane" and dated 1980 in red script in the lower right corner. This artwork was discovered tucked away safely in a family attic, though further historical details regarding the specific artist "Lane" are unknown.
The piece comes housed in its substantial, highly ornate vintage cream/off-white lacquered wood frame, featuring deeply carved scrolling acanthus leaves, decorative corner moldings, and a classic inner beaded border. The back reveals a sturdy traditional wooden stretcher, professional wire hanger, and a vintage inventory mark reading "500-C." A striking and sophisticated statement piece perfect for traditional, Hollywood Regency, or eclectic interiors.
