Despite its old appearance, the editorial mark on the reverse — “il grifo – … all right reserved – … in italy” — and the reference s-872/18 demonstrate that this copy is a 20th-century italian decorative reproduction, based on an early 19th-century print. Approximate translation: swedish ship of 84 cannons, dedicated to the illustrious lord antonio branca, merchant and banker, patron and connoisseur of the fine arts, by his most devoted and obliged servant giovanni giuseppe allezard. In the lower left area is “allezard deli.”, an abbreviation of allezard delineavit, indicating that allezard designed the composition. Below the coat of arms appears an inscription similar to “g. C. Inc. Sc.”, corresponding to the authorship of the engraving or reproduction of the matrix. Flags represented - the border features numerous historical maritime and territorial flags, accompanied by their respective names. Among the legible legends are: regno di portugal; svezia; hollanda; india orientale; fiandra; prussia; spain; grand turco; algeria; malta; corsica; monaco; nord; baltima; weimar; stralsund. These flags do not necessarily indicate the ships present in the scene; they function as a decorative table of maritime and territorial flags known at the time of the original model. A colored maritime print depicting, in profile, a large swedish warship armed with two lines of cannons. The vessel has three masts, complex rigging, and blue swedish flags with a yellow cross. Numerous figures of sailors are on the deck. In the background, other military ships, small sailing vessels, coastal formations, and a lighthouse-like structure can be distinguished. The sea is depicted in dark blue tones, contrasting with the black hull, the ochre stripes, and the bright blue of the flags. The central scene is surrounded by a frame printed in green, blue, ochre, and black, filled with dozens of flags identified by small legends. The dedicatory inscription and a coat of arms with the letter "b", alluding to antonio branca, occupy the lower field. Condition: the copy shows very extensive damage. See less
