Its coral-red ground sets off turquoise plumage and soft pink, yellow, and lavender details, while a cobalt-blue floral neck and green leaf border frame the continuous garden scene.

Rounded shoulders and a tapered silhouette give the intricate decoration a strong presence. A distinctive accent for a collected traditional interior, chinoiserie vignette, or layered library.

Marked “Made in Japan” on the underside.

Origin & Decorative History
The bird-and-peony composition belongs to an enduring decorative tradition originating in China and later adopted in Japanese art. Abundant peonies and elegant long-tailed birds form an auspicious garden motif. The underside mark identifies Japan as the country of manufacture; the maker and exact production date remain unknown.

Designer Notes
Display on a dark wood chest or console alongside antique brass and blue-and-white porcelain. The coral and turquoise palette offers a striking complement to botanical wallpaper, grasscloth, and richly patterned textiles. See less
