The long, elegant handle is fashioned from black ebonized wood, dramatically contrasted by substantial sterling silver mounts at either end. The silver is richly decorated with intricate hand-engraved detailing, lending the piece the refinement and character associated with fine late 19th- and early 20th-century personal accessories. The combination of deep black wood and bright silver gives the magnifying glass a particularly handsome, timeless appearance. The silver has an English hallmark.

Now fitted with a generously sized magnifying lens, the antique handle has been given a new life as an impressive and functional desk accessory. Its substantial proportions make it equally suited for examining documents, maps, books, photographs, stamps, or other collectibles, while its striking design allows it to serve as a decorative object when not in use.

Measuring approximately 12.5 inches long, 3.5 inches wide, and 0.75 inch high, the magnifying glass has an impressive presence without appearing cumbersome. It weighs approximately 7 ounces, giving it a pleasing, substantial feel in the hand. The magnifying lens is approximately 3.5 inches in diameter. The metal frame for the glass is not sterling silver. Good antique condition with some indents and light signs of handling to the silver overlays. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.

Perfect for a traditional library, gentleman’s study, executive desk, or English Country-inspired interior, this is far removed from an ordinary magnifying glass. The repurposed antique handle, ebonized wood, elaborate sterling silver mounts, and large lens combine to create a distinctive one-of-a-kind object—both a useful instrument and a beautiful conversation piece.
