This circa 1940s sterling silver box combines understated mid-century design with an impressive centerpiece. The clean, polished rectangular form is beautifully accented by a dimensional applied eagle emblem, giving the box the character of a presentation or commemorative piece from the WWII-era period.
The box is clearly marked “Sterling” and measures approximately 4 inches wide, 3.25 inches deep, and 1.5 inches high. The bottom of the interior is fitted with a thin wood liner, adding a refined finishing touch while protecting objects placed inside. The complete box, including this liner, weighs approximately 164 grams. Good antique condition with a few small indents and surface scratches. There are a few substance remnants to the surface of the emblem. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
A wonderful piece of mid-20th-century American sterling silver, and an unusual find for collectors of patriotic antiques, American silver, military-related objects, or distinguished gentleman’s desk accessories.
