Stunning Greek ceramic vessel featuring a distinct crackle-glaze finish, and polychrome figures inspired by classical Greek and Minoan art. The hand-painted scenes include Helios (the Greek sun god) driving his chariot, and three Minoan women, as well as beautiful decorative embellishments – all against a crackle-glazed white surface.
These pieces were made in Greece by artisans associated with the Union of Greek Ceramists during the mid-to-late 20th century. They were authorized replicas modeled after specific ancient Greek periods (such as Geometric, Corinthian, or Attic styles), and were intended strictly for decorative display (rather than functional use like eating or drinking).
• Weight: 8.5 lbs
• Measurements: Diameter: 12", Opening: 5", Height: 11 3/4"
Condition: This piece is in excellent vintage condition with minimal signs of wear appropriate to age and use. The crackle glazing, crazing, and rough surfaces are intentional, and meant to resemble the museum piece as it naturally aged. The vessel is marked underneath with its original Union of Greek Ceramists sticker, and there is also a hang tag on one of the handles identifying it as a Museum Copy.
