The composition is characterised by the strong contrast between the deep red blossoms, dark foliage and subdued background, while the carefully layered brushwork gives the flowers a convincing sense of volume and texture. The restrained palette and intimate scale create a refined decorative character typical of turn-of-the-century still-life painting.
Executed in oil on board, the painting is presented in an attractive oval giltwood frame with a softly aged finish that complements the warm tones of the composition.
The painting measures approximately 48 × 62 cm, while the overall framed dimensions are 66 × 80 × 5 cm.
The work is presented in good antique condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period.
A charming example of Italian decorative painting, combining a richly coloured floral composition with an elegant antique giltwood frame. Particularly well suited to classical, traditional and eclectic interiors. See less
