The urn-form central body, pierced and … Read more A finely chiseled French gilt bronze chandelier in the Louis XVI/Empire taste, circa 1940. The urn-form central body, pierced and ribbed, rises to a stylized foliate crown and descends through an alabaster/onyx baluster to three scrolling, leaf-form light arms, each richly chased with acanthus detail. The arms terminate in their original acid-etched glass globes with floral engraving — a rare survival, as period acid-etched glass of this quality is frequently lost or replaced over time. The piece is entirely original throughout, with no later replacement parts or married elements. The gilt bronze retains good overall color with expected wear to the high points, consistent with age and honest use. A distinctive and well-proportioned three-light fixture, equally suited to a study, dining room, or boudoir setting. Materials: Gilt bronze (ciselé et doré), alabaster/onyx, etched glass
