A distinctive interdane lounge chair, designed by danish designer oluf lund and originally produced by trio-line a/s, denmark. The design was introduced around 1990 and was subsequently taken into production by stouby. The interdane is a particularly interesting example of scandinavian furniture design from the late 20th century, combining a highly architectural stainless-steel frame with a sculptural leather sling seat.
the chair features a black leather upholstered seat and backrest with a contrasting deep red leather cylindrical headrest, supported by a precisely engineered stainless-steel tubular frame and a substantial circular pedestal base. Its most distinctive feature is the ingenious integrated reclining mechanism: the rear section can be folded forward to form a generously extended leg rest, transforming the chair from a compact lounge chair into a chaise-longue-like reclining position. This clever construction is one of the defining characteristics of the interdane.
the light, flexible construction gives the chair a subtle dynamic quality, while the graphic lines of the steel frame and carefully stitched leather upholstery create a strong sculptural presence. The design received the danish design prize in 1991 and has subsequently become a sought-after example of danish post-war / late-20th-century furniture design.
this particular fixed-base example has developed an attractive vintage patina, with visible signs of age and use to the leather and some age-related wear to the metal base, consistent with its vintage character.
