Made in USA c. 1890–1910.
Carving Knife Approximately 14 3/4" Long
Sharpening Steel Approximately 13 1/4" Long
Carving Fork Approximately 11 1/2" Long
An exceptional antique three-piece roast carving set by Reed & Barton in the elaborate Renaissance silverplate pattern, a design introduced in 1886. The richly sculptural Renaissance Revival handles feature dramatic figural mascaron faces, fruit and grape clusters, floral ornament, scrolling decoration, and architectural detailing.
The complete set consists of a large carving knife, two-tine carving fork, and sharpening steel/hone. The knife blade is marked REED BARTON.
The pieces are housed in their original fitted presentation case with blue velvet-covered exterior and burgundy satin/velvet interior. The interior retailer's ribbon is marked Klune Floberg, Sacramento, Cal., providing an attractive California retail provenance.
Reed & Barton's Renaissance pattern was introduced in 1886 then discontinued sometime around 1910.
Excellent antique condition overall. The carving fork and sharpening steel are especially well preserved. The knife's old steel blade displays age-appropriate gray/black oxidation, surface discoloration and scattered pitting, as visible in the photographs; this has been left substantially intact rather than aggressively polished or refinished. The original case shows expected age and use, including exterior wear and wear to the interior lining/ribbon. No monograms observed. Please review photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.
Shipping: Recommended packed shipping carton approximately 20" x 10" x 6". Estimated final packed shipping weight approximately 6 lb., allowing for the fitted case, protective wrapping, padding and outer carton.
