A substantial mid-century Italian ceramic sculpture by Domenico Poloniato (1926–2013), the noted Nove (Vicenza) ceramist and longtime instructor at the Istituto d’Arte per la Ceramica.
The figure depicts a young woman in a flowing dress with a large bow at the back, barefoot and lifting her skirt as she stands on a rocaille-style base modeled with roses and scrolling foliage. The work is finished in a rich glossy white glaze and signed in incised cursive “D. Poloniato” on the base. Poloniato, from a multi-generation family of Nove ceramists, specialized in large-scale figures inspired by 18th- and early 19th-century Venetian and Capodimonte traditions. His signed sculptures—pastoral, Venetian, and exotic subjects—are collected for their scale, modeling, and decorative presence. This example is rare in monochrome white and notable for its height.
