A striking 36-inch figural wall mirror by David Marshall for Sculptors Guild Ltd., combining Art Deco revival glamour with the expressive color and dimensional construction of late twentieth-century decorative design.
A stylized woman in profile anchors the circular composition, wearing a sweeping pink hat accented by a raised burgundy bow. Black hair, crimson lips, an ivory-toned face and shoulder, a geometric gold-toned earring, and deep blue clothing create a richly composed fashion portrait. Layered glass elements introduce depth and shadow, while the surrounding mirrored surface brings light and reflection into the room.
The mirror bears the David Marshall signature near its lower edge and retains its original manufacturer’s label, identifying David Marshall as a division of Sculptors Guild Ltd., with a St. Louis, Missouri address. The label is hand-dated April 20, 1990, and marked “Made in the USA.” An accompanying care label references etched glass, providing further documentation of the piece’s decorative treatment.
David Marshall was an established American decorative-mirror brand by the late 1970s. Its trademark record identifies Sculptors Guild Ltd. as the original registrant and records commercial use beginning in 1977 for decorative mirrors, mirror sculptures, and pictures. This example reflects that approach to functional wall art through its layered construction and theatrical figural imagery.
With its generous circular scale and sculptural detail, the mirror offers a distinctive focal point above a dressing table, bedroom chest, or entry console. Its blush, burgundy, black, and blue palette pairs beautifully with lacquered furnishings, velvet upholstery, warm metallic accents, and thoughtfully layered Hollywood Regency or Postmodern interiors.
