Moldings stack one above the other, a band of scrolls and leaves sits at the center and a row of small beads runs below it, all in a worn dark finish with a touch of teal-green patina gathering at one corner. This antique teak block carries its decoration on the front face only. Turn it around and the back is raw, rough, weathered wood, which is how you know it was built to stand against something.

At 12 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 8 inches tall, its rectangular shape suits places where a round pedestal can't go: a narrow mantel, a long shelf, a console edge or a deep windowsill. Set a pillar candle on the flat top, use it as a riser for a bowl or a stack of books, or let it stand alone as a small sculptural accent. The dark finish grounds a light wall, and the teal adds a quiet note of color. Because it is teak, it also suits a covered porch or patio, where the finish will keep aging.
