The frame is carved entirely from wood and finished in a warm, aged gold tone. Deep carving and pierced areas create wonderful dimension and shadow, while the naturally aged gilded surface displays an attractive patina with areas of rubbing, darkening and wear.
The exuberant silhouette is characteristic of Italian Florentine and Baroque-inspired decorative work and makes this small-scale frame especially striking on a gallery wall or incorporated into a collection of antique and vintage artwork.
The frame currently contains a small classical portrait printed on canvas. The image is included, although the primary decorative interest and value of this piece is the ornately carved giltwood frame.
