An exceptionally decorative large-scale antique oil on canvas, attributed to Swiss artist Sophie-Vera Bovet (1865–1936), depicting a barefoot young girl seated among an abundant gathering of brilliantly colored garden flowers.
The composition centers on the beautifully rendered young figure as she delicately arranges a bouquet amid an exuberant profusion of blossoms. Her softly modeled face, dark hair, period dress and contemplative expression provide an intimate counterpoint to the richness of the surrounding flowers. Vivid pinks, deep rose and red, creamy white, golden yellow, soft blue and fresh green emerge against the deeper atmospheric tones of the background, giving the painting exceptional color, depth and visual presence.
Particularly compelling is the work's combination of figurative painting, floral still life and romantic genre scene. The figure, overflowing flowers and surrounding foliage are integrated into a richly layered composition, creating a work that feels intimate in subject yet grandly decorative in presentation. Expressive brushwork and the saturated floral palette become especially engaging at close range, while the generous scale allows the painting to command a room from a distance.
The painting is signed “Bovet” at the lower left. Based on the signature, period and stylistic characteristics, the work is offered as attributed to Swiss artist Sophie-Vera Bovet (1865–1936). Sophie-Vera Bovet was a documented Swiss artist active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is represented in the collection of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva. The attribution has not been independently authenticated, and the signature and pertinent details are documented in the accompanying photographs.
The painting is presented in an exceptionally substantial green and richly gold-gilt frame with a broad, layered architectural profile. The distinctive deep green ground provides a beautiful complement to the vivid floral palette, while the extensive gold-gilt detailing adds warmth and emphasizes the romantic character of the composition. The frame is an important part of the overall presentation, giving the complete work an impressive 43-inch width and considerable presence when hung.

Condition: Very good antique condition overall. The oil painting presents beautifully, retaining its vivid color and strong visual presence. There is a small stable crack along the lower portion of the frame, which is not readily visible when the painting is hung and does not detract from its overall presentation.
