The elegant two-seat form reflects the enduring popularity of eighteenth-century French Neoclassical design during the first half of the twentieth century, when finely made revival furniture was produced for sophisticated European and American interiors.
The settee features a painted wood frame in a softly aged ivory or cream finish, enriched with restrained gilt highlights that accentuate the carved moldings and decorative details. Its rectangular upholstered back is framed by delicate beaded and carved borders, while the open arms terminate in gracefully shaped, padded armrests. Slender supports and tapered, fluted legs reinforce the Louis XVI character, with carved and gilded ornament providing subtle architectural refinement.
