Rare 19th-C. French Pillivuyt Tureen – Belgian Archery Guild Provenance (Vooruit Sint-Amandsberg)
## Description
An exceptionally rare and historically significant late 19th-century French hard-paste porcelain soup or vegetable tureen, crafted by the renowned house of Charles Pillivuyt & Co. (C.P. & Co.) in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, France.
This elegant piece is emblazoned with a hand-painted rust-red emblem commissioned specifically for the **Schuttersvereniging "Vooruit"** (Archers' Guild) of **Sint-Amandsberg (Ghent, Belgium)**. The intricately detailed crest features crossed bows and arrows, twin shields, a traditional popinjay shooting mast, and a scrolled motto banner reading *"VOORUIT ST. AMANDS BERG"*. Identical porcelain items from this specific historical commission are held in the permanent collections of the **STAM (Stadsmuseum Gent / Ghent City Museum)**.
The pristine white glazed body is structurally complemented by a magnificent, high-relief sculpted artichoke finial on the lid and crisp rust-red linework. The base features the authentic underglaze green manufacturer stamp: *MEHUN C.P. & Co. FRANCE* inside an octagonal frame, securely dating the piece to circa 1880–1899.
An incredible crossover piece for collectors of fine French porcelain, military/guild history, and European heritage.
## Condition
Excellent antique museum-grade condition. The porcelain body is completely free of chips, cracks, structural stability issues, or hairline fractures. The interior glaze is bright and clean. Exhibits only the most nominal, age-appropriate rubbing to the hand-painted enamel accents, which highlights its authentic vintage character.
