Elegant set of 7 antique red and gilt leather-bound French books with distressed bindings and covers. Some have marbelized covers, as shown. There is no denying their age and, in five cases, over a century of enjoyment. Lovely to display and suitable for brushing up on one's command of the French language.
The assortment includes vols. 1-3 of select works by Diderot, Steinbeck's "En un Combat Douteux" (In Dubious Battle); Paul Lacombe's "La Guerre et :L'homme" (War and Men); "La Gondole Aux Chimeres" (The Phantom Gondola) by Maurice Dekobra; and "Creezy" (slang derivation of the English word "crazy"), an award winning novel by Félicien Marceau.
