This exceptional piece represents the refined aesthetic of peking rugs from the turn of the century. Its dimensions categorize it as a small scatter size, perfect for adding a foundational layer of historical elegance to a compact space or hallway.

Hand-knotted in wool, the rug features a serene central field dominated by a soft, luminous tone, placing it among desirable ivory color rugs. This neutral ground is sharply framed by a deep, contrasting navy or indigo border, a characteristic often seen in Chinese rugs of this period, providing crucial visual weight and structure to the composition.

The border design employs classical Chinese motifs, including stylized geometric fretwork and symbolic elements rendered in shades of dark blue and slate. These traditional elements elevate the piece beyond simple utility, marking it as a collectible example of antique rugs that retains its artistic integrity after more than a century.

The precise knotting and high-quality wool construction speak to the skilled craftsmanship prevalent during the early 20th century. This small, sophisticated textile offers a unique opportunity to integrate genuine historical artistry into contemporary design schemes, serving as a subtle yet powerful focal point. See less
