This exceptional late 19th-century weaving exemplifies the grand scale and decorative aesthetic inherent to Oushak rugs of the period. The large, open field emphasizes the subtle shifts in color achieved through natural dyes and decades of oxidation, providing a sophisticated foundation for any interior design scheme.

The field presents a magnificent, sun-bleached patina, dominated by soft sage and pale celadon tones, creating a tranquil backdrop. This subtle palette allows the rug to integrate seamlessly into diverse design schemes, making it a superb example of ivory color rugs. The central, oxidized medallion, rendered in a striking saffron and pale orange, provides a focal point characteristic of classic Turkish rugs.

While the title suggests an allover medallion structure, the design is characterized by a large, singular central motif balanced by intricate corner spandrels and a multi-banded border system. The generous proportions of this piece classify it among the most desirable room size rugs, capable of anchoring a formal living space or dining room with understated elegance.

Woven during a period of high demand for large-format decorative weavings, this Oushak displays the sophisticated artistry and durable construction typical of its era. Its condition, remarkable for a piece dating to the 1890s, speaks to its quality and careful preservation, confirming its status as a highly collectible example among antique rugs. See less
