An original 1925 etching by Marie Laurencin, La Sieste (The Nap), presented framed. Its quiet subject and delicate line convey the intimate atmosphere characteristic of Laurencin’s figurative work. The original gallery label from Galerie Antoine Laurentin, Paris is present on the reverse, dated 1925. It is presented in a gilt wooden frame with a blue mat and gold trim.
The print is recorded as no. 83 in Daniel Marchesseau’s catalogue raisonné. Giquello’s auction catalogue identifies its provenance as Jean-Émile Laboureur and Sylvain Laboureur.
Marie Laurencin was a French painter and printmaker active within the Parisian avant-garde. Although influenced by Cubism, she developed a personal visual language of graceful figures and gently simplified forms. She also created portraits and theatrical designs, including work for the Ballets Russes.
Her paintings, drawings, and prints are held in major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
