This exceptional authentic Art Nouveau cameo glass vase by the legendary French master Émile Gallé (1846–1904) features a beautifully balanced organic silhouette. Crafted in Nancy, France, circa 1900–1904, the vase boasts a bulbous, rounded body that elegantly transitions into an elongated, gently tapering neck.
The piece exhibits masterful acid-etched craftsmanship, showcasing a continuous botanical motif of stylized winding stems, leaves, and blooming flowers in a rich, warm chocolate brown. The raised cameo decoration features finely detailed, tactile veining that offers a striking, high-contrast display against the vibrant, glowing golden-yellow satin ground.
The glass changes noticeably with the light. In reflected light, the ground appears pale yellow to yellow-green, with decoration ranging from reddish brown to plum. With daylight passing through the vase, the ground glows golden amber and the floral decoration takes on warmer brown tones. Note the final photo was taken in outdoor lighting.
A fluid, lowercase cursive "gallé" signature is integrated in raised cameo relief along the side of the lower body, characteristic of the factory's celebrated turn-of-the-century production. With its compact proportions and fiery, light-catching palette, this exquisite specimen brings a sophisticated historical presence to any fine art glass collection or curated modernist interior.
