This exceptional example of a late 19th-century amritsar rug displays the sophisticated weaving techniques characteristic of the region's revival period. Its generous scale makes it a commanding centerpiece for any grand interior.

The field is dominated by a rare, faded seafoam green, providing a calming counterpoint to the rich, saffron-toned main border. Accents of soft rose, lavender, and deep aubergine are woven throughout the dense, repeating boteh and palmette motifs, creating a complex and subtly shifting multicolor jewel tone effect that only natural dyes and age can achieve.

Unlike many contemporary designs, this piece features an all-over, densely packed pattern that eschews a central medallion, offering visual interest across the entire surface. This style was highly sought after by Western decorators seeking quality antique rugs that could anchor large drawing rooms or libraries with timeless elegance.

Woven in the highly productive looms of Indian rugs during the British Raj era, this piece represents the pinnacle of late Victorian-era textile artistry. Its substantial dimensions qualify it as a true large oversized rug, perfectly suited to define space in expansive, modern environments while providing historical depth and texture. See less
