Its top is made from three tongue and groove planks that measure 2 inches thick and run the entire length of the piece. All over the worksurface, we find reminders of its utilitarian function: moments of scoring, scratching, and staining across the richly patinated boards. We can even see where wood was inserted to fill a void or mend a split at one point in time. The joinery in the table's base is remarkable. Two X-shaped supports are intersected by a stretcher bar held in place with large wooden wedges. Two more stretchers connect the bases of the supports to provide added stability. This sturdy table is a masterclass in craftsmanship and would be perfect for use as a workbench or a kitchen island. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for use in your interiors. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
