The details reward a second look. A twisted rope border rings the top, a full, rounded body swells below it, and a shaped plinth with clipped, scalloped corners holds it all up, each face set with a small carved rosette between recessed panels. This antique teak pedestal wears a warm rust-brown painted finish, softened by age, with traces of blue-green in the recesses of the foot.
At 13 inches across and 10 inches tall, it has the presence to anchor a console, an entry or a hearth. A flat black disc sits in the top, a level seat for a pillar candle, a bowl or a small sculpture. Use it as a candle stand, a pedestal for a plant or a piece of art, or a low riser that lifts an arrangement to eye level. The rust tone warms a white or pale room and pairs well with greens, creams and brass. Because it is teak, it also suits a covered porch or patio, where the paint will keep weathering.
