This antique teak capital is the showpiece of the collection, carved in front with acanthus leaves, deep rolled scrolls at both ends and red-coral rosettes at the top and along the foot. The paint has worn in all the right places, leaving the colors soft, layered and a little chalky with age. Turn it around and the back is something else entirely: a rough, raw beam of weathered teak, which tells you it was made to sit against a wall.

At 18 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 14 inches tall, it is the largest of the group and holds a room on its own. Set it on a console, a mantel or a deep window ledge and let it do the work of a sculpture. Use it as a pedestal for a plant or an arrangement, a riser that lifts a tray or a bowl, or a bold accent in an entry or dining room. The soft green pairs with whites, creams and natural wood, and the coral picks up warm tones in textiles and art. Because it is teak, it also suits a covered porch or patio, where the paint will keep weathering.
