This exquisite piece represents the finest tribal weaving traditions of the Caucasus region during the late 19th century. Its robust construction and deeply saturated dyes mark it as a superior example among antique rugs.

The central field is dominated by a rich, inky indigo, providing a dramatic contrast to the repeating boteh or stylized palmette motifs that populate the length of the runner. The use of deep, saturated blue color rugs is characteristic of the natural indigo dyes favored by weavers in this period, lending the piece a powerful visual depth.

Flanking the dramatic field is a complex border system featuring serrated leaf patterns and geometric medallions rendered in rust, cream, and dark brown. The narrow, elongated format confirms its original purpose as a hallway runner rugs, designed to define and enhance transitional spaces within a grand home.

Woven entirely in high-quality wool, this runner possesses a durable, lustrous pile that has developed a beautiful patina over nearly 150 years. It offers a sophisticated blend of tribal geometry and rich color, serving as a powerful, authentic statement piece for discerning collectors. See less
