The tall rectangular mirror plate is surrounded by scrolling acanthus, floral ornament, architectural elements, and an elaborate openwork crest, all finished in warm, time-softened gilt.

At nearly four feet tall, the mirror has enough presence to anchor a room without requiring the scale of a large pier mirror. Its aged gilding and minor losses give the frame the character one hopes to find in an antique of this type rather than the uniformity of a newer reproduction. Particularly handsome above a console or commode in an entry hall, living room, bedroom, or dining room, and equally suited to a layered English country or French country interior.
