This striking vintage mid-century chalkboard activity globe was manufactured by the renowned A.J. Nystrom & Co. of Chicago.
Designed for aviation navigation, aeronautical charting, and advanced geography lessons, this impressive tabletop piece features a large, hollow spun-metal orb. The matte blue oceans contrast beautifully with the minimalist, slated brown continents. Its textured slate-paint surface allowed instructors or students to draw flight paths and geographic data directly onto the globe with chalk. White stenciled degree coordinates line the equator and latitude lines, highlighting its mid-century scientific purpose.
The sphere rests on its original, heavy dark metal dome base and features a double-axis mount that allows it to rotate smoothly in all directions. It makes a bold sculptural statement for a modern office, library, or design collection.

Wear is consistent with historical classroom use, featuring a notable patch of paint loss and exposed silver metal at the bottom pole near the mount (not visible from standard front-facing angles). The metal shell has a shallow indentation near Australia, scattered surface scuffs, and a small remnant of vintage tape in the Pacific Ocean. The dark metal base is solid, stable, and rotates smoothly. less
