The iconic Togo sofa, designed in 1973 by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, France. Considered one of the most recognizable designs in European furniture of the second half of the 20th century, the Togo transformed the traditional concept of seating with its low, sculptural silhouette, completely free of a conventional rigid structure.
Its construction using polyurethane foams of varying densities allows for the creation of the characteristic quilted volumes and deep folds that define the model. This particular piece is upholstered in a fabric in neutral beige and cream tones, with a subtle linear weave that accentuates the relaxed and enveloping character of the piece.
Presented in 1973 at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in Paris, the Togo received the René Gabriel Prize and quickly became one of Ligne Roset's greatest successes. Its low proportions and pleated surface synthesize a new way of understanding domestic comfort, characteristic of French experimental design of the 1970s.
Michel Ducaroy joined Ligne Roset in 1954 and developed some of the company's most iconic designs, particularly exploring the possibilities of new foams and synthetic materials.
It is in very good overall condition, with slight signs of use, patina, and wear consistent with its age. The structure is stable and well-preserved. Its condition can be seen in detail in the photographs.
