A stunning Spanish handcrafted vase with a powerful design, dating from the Mid-Century period, circa 1960. This piece perfectly embodies the Brutalist aesthetic with its sculptural forms and raw, hand-worked texture.
The vase features a globular body adorned with radial geometric incisions on the shoulder, highlighted by several rows of applied scales or festoons in relief. Two ornate handles, also textured with incisions, flank the neck, giving the piece the appearance of an archaic amphora or an archaeological find. The ceramic is covered with a matte glaze with a textured green-gray "bronze patina" finish, realistically simulating the oxidation of aged metal. The base of the vase reveals a reddish-brown terracotta.
This piece evokes post-war French ceramic production and, with its sculptural style and distinctive patina, strongly recalls the work of major artists such as Georges Jouve or the Accolay pieces of that era. It belongs to the architectural and Brutalist design movement.
An authentic vintage decorative object, this vase with its assertive character will be a centerpiece in a modern, Mid-Century, bohemian chic, or eclectic interior. It will appeal to collectors of French art ceramics and lovers of 20th-century European design.
