An iconic “Cleopatra” daybed designed by Dick Cordemeijer for Auping in the Netherlands in 1954, one of the most recognizable examples of Dutch post-war modernism.
The daybed features a slender black metal frame with sculptural teak end rails and the characteristic original Auping spiral-mesh construction. The combination of metal and wood creates a light, open structure with a clean linear appearance.
A generously proportioned mattress provides a comfortable surface for both sitting and lounging. Upholstered in beige melange De Ploeg fabric, the subtle texture and mixed tones create a warm contrast with the black frame and teak details.
The minimal construction, contrasting materials and functional simplicity reflect Cordemeijer’s innovative approach to Dutch modern furniture design. This piece has an attribution mark,
