The compact square form is topped with a padded black unholstered seat, creating a striking contrast to the warm golden-bamboo tone of the wooden frame. The frame has turned legs carved and finished to imitate the segmented nodes of natural bamboo. Numerous spindles, ball-form details, pendant turnings, and geometric stretchers give the base an unusually decorative, almost architectural quality. Black painted rings and finials punctuate the the golden finish and emphasize the bamboo construction. The gently splayed legs and layered stretchers add both visual interest and stability. The black upholstered seat provides a clean, tailored counterpoint to the more whimsical faux-bamboo base in the Chinoiserie style.
In modern interiors, this bench/footstool is ideal as a dressing table or vanity stool, a bedroom bench, an occasional seat in a dressing room, or a decorative stool beneath a console table. It will also work well in an entry hall or as extra seating in a living area. See less
