Bring the serene charm of a European maritime harbour into your collection with this captivating, unsigned late 19th- to early 20th-century oil painting. Captured through loose, expressive brushwork and a moody, atmospheric palette, this piece exemplifies the classic en plein air impressionist tradition.
Item History & Provenance
While the artist remains anonymous, the physical backing of the painting reveals exceptional historical provenance. It features an authentic metal supply plaque from the legendary Parisian art purveyor Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet (located at 19, Rue Vavin et 2, Rue Brea, PARIS). Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet was one of the most prestigious artist material houses in Paris during the 19th and 20th centuries, famously supplying canvases and materials to master artists of the School of Paris and major impressionist/modern painters. The reverse also bears vintage transport and inventory markings, hinting at its journey through European collections.
A tranquil European coastal harbor filled with moored sailing vessels, traditional wooden fishing boats, and subtle architectural details in the background.
The Palette: Muted sea-greens, slate grays, earthy browns, and accented figures in vibrant red jackets add a striking focal point to the serene waters.
Material & Medium: Oil on canvas board/panel housed in a distressed vintage rustic wooden frame that complements the aged character of the artwork.
Signature: Unsigned on the front, carrying the quiet mystery of a talented independent impressionist working in the French tradition.
