This small Chinese locking cabinet from the early 20th century has a richly aged patina that only time can achieve. The little cabinet has a minimal, square-corner design with straight lines and a dark brown lacquer finish devoid of carvings or painted decoration.
The surface is beautifully worn from years of use, the lacquer faded to reveal the warm coloring of the wood beneath. The double doors are secured by a quatrefoil brass lock plate, which is original to the cabinet and well-aged with a dark patina. With two shelves and an interior drawer, the storied chest is perfect today as a side table, vanity or nightstand.
