The lion is depicted in a seated, alert posture atop a plain, rectangular block base that serves as an integrated stand. It features a detailed, curly mane composed of tightly coiled swirls, bulging eyes, an open jaw with visible teeth, a decorative collar with a bell, and muscular front legs resting on an openwork, lattice-patterned brocade ball. The carving is finished with a rich, warm amber-brown patina, showing the fine, dense grain of the boxwood and areas of natural wear on the high points. The reverse side shows the flowing, textured fur of the mane cascading down the back. A tactile and collectible piece, ideal for a scholar's desk or display cabinet.
