Each vase features … Read more This is a striking pair of large vintage cloisonné enamel vases, crafted in a faceted hexagonal form. Each vase features a flared mouth, a waisted neck, a broad, tapering body of hexagonal section, and a spreading foot. Crafted from a substantial copper body with intricate wire inlay, the surface is richly decorated against a deep cobalt blue ground on the neck, which is densely patterned with fine gilt wire cloud scrolls and a central stylized auspicious character motif in blue and red. The main body features a vibrant turquoise blue ground decorated with fine wire scrolls. Each of the six facets displays a distinct, hand-painted floral arrangement in a vessel: a red and yellow peony, a white chrysanthemum, and a multi-colored lotus, accompanied by delicate scholar's objects (vases, bowls, and fruit) in the corners. The mouth, edges, and base are finished with gold gilded rims. The interiors are glazed in a solid turquoise blue. The maker notes each vase weighs approximately 7 jin 3 liang (approx. 3.6 kg). A highly decorative and impressive pair, ideal for display.
