Each vase features a flared square mouth, a baluster-shaped body of square section, and a spreading square foot, accented with elaborate, cast bronze beast-head handles with loose rings (taotie masks) applied to the shoulders and neck. The surface is richly decorated against a vibrant turquoise-blue ground that is densely patterned with a fine, scrolling gilt wire motif. The main body features a large, stylized archaic beast mask (Taotie) motif in shades of blue, green, and purple, while the neck, foot, and border bands feature additional stylized masks, floral scrolls, and geometric lappet motifs. The interiors and bases are glazed in a solid turquoise blue. These vases are substantial in size and weight, and the maker notes that such old-stock pieces are increasingly rare. A highly decorative and collectible pair.
