The rectilinear case is veneered in warm figured woods with inlaid panels and is dressed with lavish gilt metal ornament throughout, most notably a large arched central mount featuring a sunburst medallion framed by scrolling acanthus, garlands and ribbon-tied trophies. Fluted pilasters, a pierced frieze and toupie feet continue the neoclassical vocabulary, and the whole is crowned by a thick shaped green marble top with white veining. The piece dates to the 20th century and was made in the manner of the grand Parisian commodes of the late 18th century. See less
