A wonderfully sculptural vintage brass candle wick trimmer and snuffer featuring ornate scrolling handles, oversized circular finger rings, a pointed finial-like end, and an integrated wick-catching chamber.
Based on the traditional scissor-form candle tools used to trim wicks and capture the clipped material before it fell into the candle wax, this example is especially decorative. The sinuous S-shaped handles and warm aged brass give it considerable visual interest even when displayed simply as an object.
A handsome addition to a collected-brass arrangement, mantel, library, coffee table or candle display, and particularly well suited to traditional, English-inspired, eclectic and maximalist interiors.
Unmarked; maker and exact age are unknown.
Recently lightly polished with Brasso while retaining areas of its naturally aged surface.
Dimensions:
Approximately 6.25” L × 2.25” W
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Surface scratches, spotting, oxidation/tarnish, variations in the brass finish and small areas of verdigris are present, particularly in recessed areas and around joints. The piece was recently lightly hand-polished with Brasso, while some patina was intentionally retained. Scissor mechanism opens and closes. Please see detailed photographs.
