Resting her head thoughtfully against one hand, she reaches toward a generous still-life arrangement of golden grapes, peaches and foliage.
The composition has a romantic Old World Academic/Realist character, with particularly appealing treatment of the sitter’s face, hands, clothing and fruit. The deep background beautifully emphasizes the saturated blue of her dress and the warm gold and amber tones throughout the composition.
The reverse bears a handwritten Cyrillic inscription identifying V. I. Gavrilov (В. И. Гаврилов) and describing the work as a copy titled “Girl with Grapes” (“Девушка с виноградом”), along with an oil-on-canvas notation and dimensions. Additional painted markings/signature are visible at the lower right of the image.
An impressive decorative painting with wonderful presence, well suited to a traditional, European, eclectic or collected interior. See less
